Network and Infrastructure: Technological Platforms

	JAZZTEL Group currently offers telecommunications services for fixed telephone lines, data services, (such as virtual private Networks, or VPNs) and Internet, through its own infrastructure (Direct Access Service) and through the infrastructure of third parties (Indirect Access Services). JAZZTEL Group also offers a great variety of advanced solutions (Value Added Services) such as the hosting of information and websites in JAZZTEL servers, software engineering and development of management solutions, telecommunications systems integration, installation of telephone switchboards, and the installation, configuration and maintenance of Networks.. JAZZTEL aims its range of services at both residential and business customers, adapting its range to the specific needs of each segment. Furthermore, JAZZTEL takes advantage of its telecommunications infrastructure by providing services to other carriers (Wholesale Customers). In order to provide customers of various sectors with the most advanced services, JAZZTEL has various technological platforms as described below.
	Access technologies JAZZTEL Group uses its deployment of optical fibre to directly connect customers to its broadband Network using various technologies depending on the type of customers and their geographical concentration:     SDH technology is used to connect customers directly to our optical fibre Network therefore offering them the highest level of reliability and growth in bandwidth. This technology of proven reliability over the years, takes advantage of OF Network redundancy structured in rings so that any cut-outs in any section will not affect the service. It enables different circuit speeds and interfaces to be transported: E1, E3, STM-1, Fast Ethernet.     CWDM Technology (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing). Latestgeneration OF multiplexing technology, which enables the same OF in metropolitan areas to transport various signals of very high capacity. In this way, we can provide our customers with redundant circuits of 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps capacities.     Broadband DSL Access Network to connect scattered low-consumption telecommunications customers using copper loops leased from the incumbent carriers. JAZZTEL Group is installing DSL broadband multiplexers in Telefónica central offices that again connect to our fibre Network. For several years, with this technology, we have provided various voice lines of excellent quality on the same customer pair, and symmetrical data connections (SHDSL) essential to the smooth functioning of business data connections. On the residential and SME market, we are able to offer high-speed ADSL connections due to the fact that there are no bottlenecks between the DSLAM and the rest of the JAZZTEL Network. With regard to 2005 and with the intention of maintaining our status as leaders in innovation on the broadband market, JAZZTEL started the selection process in the last quarter of 2004 for a new DSLAM technology based 100% on IP technology, which would enable us to offer speeds of up to 20Mbps (through ADSL2+ technology) and in the medium term, the possibility of providing content (Television, Video on demand, etc.). Voice Network Technology In order to provide voice services to our customers by either Indirect Access or by direct connection to our Network, JAZZTEL has 6 central offices with high switching capacity using DMS-100 circuits made by Nortel. This technology provides the following advantages::     Provision of high-quality and high-reliability voice services on platforms of proven robustness.     Central offices that provide high capacity integrated into a single node.     Provision of advanced services, such as various Intelligent Network services integrated onto our own platform.   Data Network Technology   The JAZZTEL data Network uses the following technologies:     ATM technology in the access part, made up of a number of ATM Passport nodes from Nortel, the technological leader in the ATM sector. This Network enables connectivity to ADSL connections with Telefónica and mainly, to various DSLAMs deployed by JAZZTEL. In this way, it is possible to provide secure high-quality transport to the various business and residential services.     Tecnología IP MPLS Cisco. MPLS Cisco IP Technology As a partner of Cisco, the leading manufacturer in the IP technologies sector, JAZZTEL has two differentiated platforms for businesses and for residential traffic, each one designed expressly to meet the expectations of service and quality in each market. Both Networks have high-capacity routers and their own connections to Internet, which makes it easier to provide the quality and service established for each type of customer, and also makes system assurance operations considerably easier. New JAZZTEL NGN Network In the highly competitive environment of telecommunications carriers, it is essential for companies to be prepared to sustain the widest possible range of services and provide them at the highest possible speed. It is a determining factor in this scenario to have a state-of-the-art Network ready to sustain "future services", either from the carrier or from other companies specialising in offering applications over carriers´ Networks.   Although it is difficult to predict which will be the "killer applications" of the future, it is, however, possible to establish a number of environments from which these can be developed:     Multimedia audio-video applications, content distribution, and interactive games.     Voice Services..     Video-on-demand applications.     Bandwidth-on-demand applications.     QoS-based services, including QoS on demand. On this basis, at the end of 2004, JAZZTEL started a selection process for various technologies to support the above applications using a Next Generation Network (NGN). JAZZTEL´S definition of an NGN is as follows:     An IP-based packet Network that is capable of maintaining a wide range of intelligent services and qualities of service. It must also ensure end-to-end safety mechanisms for the service.     A single control plan capable of maintaining the entire portfolio of services on multiple access and transport technologies. It should also serve as a single interface to carrier OSS´s in order to facilitate the provision and invoicing of these services.     A Network that provides all the mechanisms necessary for its correct management, operation, and maintenance, as excellence of service quality is one of the most important requirements. More specifically, and within JAZZTEL´S scope, it will be a Network based mainly on xDSL access with a focus on Triple Play services. It must include all the elements required to ensure reliability and quality of service, and also enable service provision and activation to be automatised, and provide flexibility with regard to introducing new user profiles and service functions.
